Tarte Tarteist Treats Set: Tarteist Pro To Go Palette, Lash Paint Mascara and Glossy Lip Paint

I don’t remember ever getting a Tarte eyeshadow palette that I didn’t like, so when the new Tartist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette came out, I really wanted to get it. However, having so many palettes already, I really couldn’t justify it. Then I saw the Tarteist Pro To Go palette, and I knew it would be mine. Since Sephora had the Tarteist Treats Set at the time, which contained additional deluxe samples of the Lash Paint Mascara and Glossy Lip Paint for just a few dollars more, I decided to go with the set, and I’m so glad I did. This set is one of my favorite purchases so far this year.

Tarteist Treats set contains:

• Tarteist™ Pro to Go Amazonian Clay Palette with 6 x 0.85g eyeshadows
• Tarteist™ Lash Paint Mascara 2.5ml
• Tarteist™ Glossy Lip Paint 1ml

Although the palette is the star of the set, I want to review to samples first, especially because I was surprised by how much I liked them.

The Lash Paint Mascara is certainly one of the best mascaras I’ve ever tried. I have long eyelashes naturally, and always look for mascaras that lift, curl, and separate lashes well, while adding color, volume and more length. Basically, everything a mascara should do for all of us, and Tarte promises this mascara would deliver.

Since I usually go for mascaras with thick brush, I didn’t expect much when I saw the short bristles on this one, but I was wrong. The bristles truly grab every single lash, lift them up and coat with the blackest black. I don’t really love the packaging of the deluxe sample, since it opens and closes in a weird way, and that can lead to some mascara leaking around the edge, and advise you to check the closure on the full size to see if it would suit you. It’s not a deal breaker for me, though, since the mascara performs so well.

You can see from the photos below what Lash Paint Mascara does for me. It lifts my eyelashes and curls them, but I’d still recommend an eyelash curler if you usually use one and have long eyelashes. If you have shorter eyelashes, this mascara should be enough to give you a nice curl. I don’t think the mascara adds a lot of volume, but it gives me plenty of additional length, and combs and separates every lash perfectly!!! I hate clumpy looking mascara, so this feature is very important to me. The mascara dries fast, and one coat is all I need. It feels light on my eyelashes, so I forgot that I was wearing it a few times, and rubbed my eyes, and it didn’t affect it at all. It doesn’t smudge or flake during the day. Once or twice I ever had a nap during the day while wearing this mascara, and it held well! All in all, I’d say this mascara is close to perfect for my eyelashes.

The Glossy Lip Paint in WCW is another surprising discovery for me. I’d say it’s a hybrid between a liquid lipstick and a lip gloss. It’s thick, goes on evenly and a little bit is more than enough. The formula is thick, a bit sticky, and feels and wears like a gloss on my lips, although much more pigmented. The applicator has a slanted tip, which makes application very easy.

I love berry toned lippies, and when  I saw this one, my first thought was ‘cherry’. Later on my hubby described the color as cherry also, although now I would say the color is more dark raspberry, leaning toward deep pink more than red. It’s a beautiful color, and one of the favorite berry colored lippies in my arsenal.

Like I already said, the Glossy Lip Paint really feels like a gloss, and it’s very shiny like one. The wear time is around 4h, longer than a gloss, less than a lipstick. It goes away when eating and leaves a nice stain.

I need to point out that this lippie tends to bleed more than I’m used to, so I recommend a berry or clear lip liner with it.

The Tarteist Pro To Go Amazonian Clay palette is the little sister of the Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette. I really couldn’t justify getting the full size Pro palette, so this one was a little treat. The colors included in the Pro To Go palette are:

• Drive (nude)
• Stylin (brown)
• Boss (bronze)
• Hype (gold)
• Crisp (chestnut)
• Dominate (shimmering raspberry)

Boss and Dominate are shimmering metallics,  Hype is a shimmer, and the rest of the colors are matte. These are different eyeshadows than the ones in the full Pro palette!

I wanted this to be one of the palettes I can carry when traveling, like the Tartelette Tease palette, and it’s almost there. However, it lacks a very light color for my brow bone, since Drive is a bit too dark for that, and the selection of colors leans a bit too orange for me. I still reach for it a lot, but I mostly add some eyeshadows from my other palettes. I am in love with Hype, since golden eyeshadows have a special place in my heart, and Dominate is a quite unique metallic pink that is so on trend. The colors in general are great to define my hazel eyes.

I didn’t experience much fallout when applying these eyeshadows. The two metallics are pressed in quite hard, and I had to swirl my brushes in them a bit more, but they apply as well as all the other shadows in the palette. I am happy that the matte colors are buttery soft, not powdery and they blend very well. Over a primer shadows last all day on my eyes, with no fallout, creasing or fading. Just like the mascara, they survived a few naps on my eyes and still looked great when I woke up.

Here are a few looks I created with just this palette. First off is a shimmery halo eye:

And lastly, a bronze look that is so summer-appropriate for me (eyes lined with a separate eyeliner):

Since the first time I opened the palette, it reminded me of the everyone’s favorite Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette, so I decided to do a color comparison for you. I have to point out that I know none of these colors are the same, I just believe they’re in the same color family. So, if you have the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, you maybe don’t need the Tarte Pro To Go, although I have both, and use them equally. Or you can’t get or can’t afford the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, in which case the Tarte Pro To Go palette could be a nice one to get.

Drive (Tarteist Pro To Go) is the most similar to the Raw Sienna eyeshadow in the Modern Renaissance palette. They are not the same, Raw Sienna is a bit darker and more orange, but it’s definitely the same color family. Warm Taupe is the only other color in the Modern Renaissance palette that looked similar to me, but once swatched there is really no similarity to Drive.

Stylin (Tarteist Pro To Go) almost lookes like it has a plum undertone, and the most similar colors from the Modern Renaissance palette are the Cypruss Amber and Antique Bronze. I’d say you would get something close to Stylin if you mix these two ABH colors together. Definitely the same color family.

Boss (Tarteist Pro To Go) has only one similar color in the Modern Renaissance palette, and it’s the Antique Bronze, which is quite darker and less shimmery than Boss. But blended out well, you can get Antique Bronze to give a similar effect to Boss. Again, these two are definitely in the same color family.

Hype (Tarteist Pro To go) is a warm shimmery gold, and the closest match to it in the Modern Renaissance palette is Primavera, which is lighter and less warm. Hype applied with a light hand and blended out can resemble Primavera. Once more, these are definitely in the same color family.

Crisp (Tarteist Pro To Go) is a deep terracotta orange to me, and the only similar color in the Modern Renaissance palette is Burnt Orange, that is a lighter orange color. I believe you could get a color similar to Crisp if you mix Burnt Orange with a deeper brown. Although these colors are quite different, I thinkthey are still in the same color family.

There is really no color in the Modern Renaissance palette that is similar to Dominate (Tarteist Pro To Go). However, the underlying principle is the same – to use some pink/berry tones that are so on trend this year. Eyeshadows from this color family in the Modern Renaissance palette are Love Letter, Red Ochre and Venetian Red. All three are deeper than Dominate, and all are matte, while Dominate is a metallic color.

As I already said, this set is one of my favorite purchases this year. I love the palette, although it’s not ‘complete’ for me, and I found some beautiful eyeshadows in it. The mascara and the glossy lip paint were wonderful discoveries, too, and I’m using everything in this set quite often.

The set is currently sold out on the Sephora website (it was $33 CAD), but everything is available separately. The Tarteist Pro To Go Amazonian Clay palette retails for $30, while the full size Lash Paint Mascara costs $30/ 0.23 oz/ 7 ml, and the Glossy Lip Paint $24/ 6ml.
