Jane Scrivner Skincare is a UK based company that produces natural skincare products. It was founded, you guessed it, by Jane Scrivner. She put a lot of time into researching the purest natural ingredients that actually work, following them to their source, so she can confidently say they are clean, raw, cold pressed, and preferably organic. Jane wanted to formulate products that give you healthy, glowing skin, to boost your confidence. A number of products in this skincare line won really great awards, additionally proving the effectiveness of their products.

I have to say my communication with Jane was amazing. She is easy to connect to, and our collaboration worked out very fast and with no delays (expect the post office delay, which is so not Jane’s fault). She even took time to hand-sign the box I received my products for testing in. I always appreciate this type of attention to detail and customer service.

Jane sent me a full facial routine for testing, and I was almost exclusively using these products for about a month before deciding to share my review. The products I’ll be telling you about today are:

  • Luxurious Cleansing Balm
  • Skin Elixir
  • ‘OO’ Cream
  • Bioluronic Buzz 2000 (sample)
  • Masquerade (sample)

Before I start talking about the actual products, I want to show you their packaging. Every full-size product I receive has a little insert that explain the importance of nourishing your skin from the inside, especially how we need to hydrate by drinking enough water, and how excess sugar consumption can destroy our skin’s natural collagen levels. So, drink more water and ditch sugar!

Luxurious Cleansing Balm/ Nourishing Cleanser is a collagen and elastin promoting product. This is a balm cleanser that doesn’t strip skin and provides additional nourishment for clean, soft and glowing skin.

Ingredients: Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax), Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Canarium Luzonicum Gum Nonvolatiles, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Olibanum Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Commiphora Myrrha Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Citral*, Coumarin*, Eugenol*, Geraniol*, Isoeugenol*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Farnesol*, Limonene*, Linalool* *naturally occurring in essential oils

This product is 100% natural and 87% organic.

The balm comes in a generous 100 ml jar, with a scrubby, but soft cotton mitt and a little plastic spatula, so you can scoop some balm without contaminating the rest. The balm has a light herbal scent, with Eucalyptus, Lavender and Sweet Orange dominating. It’s such a beautiful, relaxing scent that is perfect for evening cleanse.

I need just a small scoop of product to apply over my whole face. I gently rub it into my skin, paying more attention to harder to remove makeup (i.e. mascara). If you do use it on your eyes, make sure to keep them tightly shut, but I had no problems using it for eye makeup removal. There was never any stinging, which sometimes happens with some other balm or oil cleansers. The included mitt really helps with removing the product, and gently exfoliates. Make sure you use warm water on the mitt. I found it better to lightly wet my hands and emulsify the balm on my face, and then to remove it with the mitt, but both ways work well.

I really enjoy cleansing with this balm, and sometimes leave it for 5-10 minutes on my face before removing it, almost as a mask (on non-makeup days). But regardless of how you use it, as a mask or a quick cleanse, it will definitely leave your skin clean, but not stripped. All the product gets easily wiped off, but my skin stays soft, and not dry the way wash-off cleansers make it feel.

Skin Elixir is formulated to be used as a moisturizer. It hydrates, smooths and has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s made to balance any skin type, including oily skin. This lovely oil contains 9 essential oils (2% of the product) in a base of 100% organic jojoba oil (98% of the product).

Ingredients: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Canarium Luzonicum Gum Nonvolatiles, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Olibanum Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Commiphora Myrrha Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Citral*, Coumarin*, Eugenol*, Geraniol*, Isoeugenol*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Farnesol*, Limonene*, Linalool* *naturally occurring in essential oils.

Skin Elixir comes in a  gorgeous pump bottle with light copper details. I like how the product sticker cleverly hides and protects the oil inside from light, while you can still see how much product you have left. With 9 essential oils there is no shortage of wonderful natural scent, but for me Sweet Orange dominates, and Eucalyptus comes through as a much lighter second scent.

The way I apply this oil is to dispense it onto my fingers, rub my hands together, and then gently pat and press it into my skin. One pump is more than enough for my face and neck after cleansing, so this bottle will last for a long time. It’s supposed to absorb quickly, but I noticed only slight difference in absorption between this and other facial oils I’ve tried. However, the OO cream that comes after the oil makes it the perfect combo. The oil is gentle, and my T-zone is only slightly shiny when I wake up, not too oily. It hydrates my dry cheeks perfectly, and I started using the oil+cream combo in the morning, too, especially on the days when I feel my skin is dryer than usual.

‘OO’ Cream (Over Oil) is a cream formulated to be used over oils, hence the name. It contains wonderful ingredients combined to effectively hydrate, protect and mattify skin. It stimulates collagen production, calms, protects, nourishes, cools and clarifies skin while forming a barrier to prevent trans epidermal water loss.

Ingredients: English spring water aqua, oat kernel extract avena sativa (o), aloe vera aloe barbadensis, sun flower helianthus annuss (o), shea butter butyrospermum parkii (o), cetearyl alcohol, argan argania spinosa (o), rose hip rosa canina (o), white birch betula pendula, glyceryl stearate, calendula calendula officinalis, phenylethyl alcohol natural, coco glucosides, eye bright euphrasia officinalis, orange citrus aurantium (o), palmarosa cymbopogon martini, rose geranium pelargonium graveolens (o), tocopherol vitamin e, rose absolute rosa centefolia, vanilla vanilla plantifolia, benzoin styrax benzoin, sodium phytate, sodium hydroxide, benzyl alcohol, *citral *euganol *geraniol *citronellol *farnesol *linalool *limonene *benzyl benzoate *benzyl cinnamate. *naturally occurring components of essential oils.

The cream comes in a 100 ml jar, and that is 2-3 more than usual facial moisturizer size, so think of that when comparing prices. The yellow color may make you think of a balm, but it has a consistency of a cream, with a light, natural floral scent. The product comes with a small spatula, so you can scoop it out without touching the rest of the cream (wash the spatula afterwards, obviously).

I apply a very small amount over the Skin Elixir oil, and it starts working its magic. It reduces the oily feeling and shine from the oil, and helps everything absorb better. I wouldn’t say that it completely mattifies my skin, but it really makes a huge difference when applied over the oil.

I’ve been using it nightly, and with the other Jane Scrivner products its making my skin soft and hydrated. I do wake up with a little bit of shine on my forehead, but no breakouts. I’ve also been using the OO cream on its own on days when I didn’t feel I needed that much oil, and I love how it cools my skin and absorbs almost instantly. Used alone it does mattify my skin slightly, providing a perfect canvas for makeup. As it got really cold in my area, I also decided to try the oil and OO cream before makeup, and love how my makeup glides nicely over it.

Bioluronic Buzz 2000 is a Bio Fermented Hyaluronic acid gel, that contains 2000mg per 135g bottle of hyaluronic acis, as the name suggests, for deep hydration. This product also contains White Willow for its smoothing properties, and Buzz Button to ‘paralyze’ facial muscles, providing a natural alternative to Botox.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Hyaluronic Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride*, Propanediol**, Salix Alba Bark, Aloe Barbendensis Extract, Sodium Bicarbonate, Boswellia Carteri Extract, Phytic Acid***, Benzyl Alcohol****, Spilanthes Acmella (buzz button) Flower Extract. * from coconut **from corn sugar ***plant origin ****naturally occurring in essential oils.

I’m in love with hyaluronic acid products, and tried quite a few different ones, yet this one managed to surprise me. The gel has a watery feel, and spreads over skin easily. It glides almost like a thin silicone primer (but there is no silicone in it). I massage it in for about 10 seconds and it gets immediately absorbed. My skin looks plump, but it has no residue on top. The gel is great for layering with other essences, toners, moisturizers and oils, since it absorbs so fast that you don’t need to wait before applying the next layer. It’s also great as a moisturizer in the morning, since there is no greasiness, and you can apply makeup on top of it immediately.

At first I didn’t feel the tightening effect, but it began kicking in after a few days of  regular use. It’s not a strong feeling, but definitely there, and I love to feel that my skincare products work.

Masquerade is formulated to soothe, decongest, repair, refresh and revitalise dull and tired skin. It calms and balances skin, provides nourishment and revives the skin.

Ingredients: Aqua, Kaolin, Aloe vera (O), Sunflower (O), Argania spinosa (O), Rosehip (O), Calendula (O), Apricot (O), Glycerin, Witchazel, Stearic acid*, Cetearyl alcohol*, Cetyl alcohol*, Phenyl alcohol*, Caprylyl glycol*, Jojoba (O), Coco glucoside* Xanthan gum, Sodium bicarbonate, Benzyl alcohol** Neroli**, Green mandarin**(O), Benzoin**(O), Lemon**(O), Ylang ylang**(O), Chamomile**(O), Immortelle**, Petitgrain**(O). *Naturally derived **naturally occurring in essential oils

I managed to get two uses out of the sample, once all over the face, once just on my cheeks. This is a thin and creamy mask, that caused slight tingling after application, but the feeling goes away. It slightly dries down, but mostly absorbs into the skin. It pulls some dirt from my pores, and after removal my skin looks even and smooth, not tight, but needs some more hydration. This is the first face mask containing clay that didn’t dry out my cheeks. I’m amazed. The scent is floral, natural and medium strong, and for some reason reminds me of hyacinths! Both times I used it it felt like spring was here!

I don’t think I need to even say how much I loved each of these products! My favorite of the bunch is definitely the ‘OO’ Cream. It is so rich and nourishing, yet lightweight, that I’m so happy that I have the 100 ml full size. The second best is the Masquerade mask – it cleared my skin without making it dry, which is so rare for me. But these products work the best together.
