After trying a free month of Ipsy Glam Bag subscription in January, I really liked it and decided to keep the subscription going for a while. This is one of the cheapest makeup subscriptions out there, and since I am on a makeup overload, but still want to receive some fun mail, I thought this could be a good match. This is my seventh box (I skipped June).
Ipsy Glam Bag is a beauty subscription box that sends 5 makeup and skincare samples every month, and sometimes full sized products, too. You will also receive a makeup bag every month. The brands included vary a lot, and there are big variations between boxes. You fill a profile, and they try to match you with products that suit you.
The cost: US $10 + $4.95 shipping to Canada (no shipping charge for the US)
Ships to: Canada, US (except Hawaii and Alaska)
Good to know: You can pause the subscription for 1, 2 or 3 months, or adjust the frequency to receive the bag every other month (they bill you $12 USD every two months for this).
I have tested the skipping option in June, and it’s easy to use. Once you skip a month through your profile, you will receive a confirmation email. Also, a few days before billing they email you again to remind you that you’ll be charged for the next month after skipping, and if you want you can skip again at that point. I love how easy it is to use this option!
Everything comes packed in a bright pink padded envelope, and all the makeup always survives shipping from the US to Canada.
August theme is Selfie with no filter! The bag comes with a card that has some ingredient and product suggestions.
This is everything that I received in my August bag. Please note that there are many variations, and you may and probably will receive some or all different products.
August Glam Bag
This month’s bag is a true orange canvas bag, with yellow trim and lined with orange nylon fabric. The zipper is also bright yellow, with a “faux leather” tassel pull. It’s not my favorite Ipsy bag, but I don’t hate it, and the color is very summer appropriate (although the summer is ending/has ended, depending on where you live).
I always prefer to see more makeup than skincare in my Ipsy bags, with the exception of masks. I can never have enough masks, and this new Hey Honey mask is a welcome addition to my collection, since I am out of my other peel-off masks. I still haven’t tried it, but I’m looking forward to the promised immediate results. Peel-off masks can hurt, but I can normally manage it well, so I’m happy with this sample (which I actually requested through the quiz).
Value: $9.8 USD
TonyMoly The Black Tea London Classic Serum – Sample 10 ml
This is where Ipsy gets annoying for me – another skincare sample. I wish I could only receive one per bag, but they can’t set that up (I asked). I am not THAT mad this time around, though, since this is another sample I requested through the quiz. This lightweight serum absorbs well and layers great. Black tea is supposed to have anti-aging properties, so I’m hoping to see some improvement after using up this sample.
Value: $7.82 USD
Benefit Cosmetics thePOREfessional Pearl Primer – Sample 3ml
This is officially the tiniest sample of a primer I ever had. Luckily, the tiny tube is completely full. This is the third sample from the quiz that I received this month. I was looking forward to comparing this to the original Porefessional primer. I expected more radiance, but honestly, this primer is very similar to the original one in the way it looks and feels, and any radiance is VERY subtle. It smells good, like cotton candy, but I surprisingly loved what it does for my dry cheeks – it makes whatever I put on top (CC cream, foudation, tinted suncreen) look less dry and cakey, so I keep reaching for it. This one was a winner!
Value: $7.27 USD/ $9.54 CAD
At first I thought this blush looked too light, until I applied it to my cheeks. For my very light skin, this is a perfect match! It gives me a gorgeous pop of color that makes me look alive, and it doesn’t look overdone. It blends well, it’s buildable and natural. And that price is a steal! I love everything about this blush, and it’s one of my favorite discoveries since I started getting Ipsy bags.
Value: $14 USD
Slmissglam Blush Brush – FULL SIZE
As always, it’s almost impossible to value Slmissglam brushes because she doesn’t sell them separately, so I linked to a similar set and assigned an approximate value to one brush based on that set. The brush is cute, soft, fluffy, although a bit and too small for a blush brush for me. I will use it to blend out bronzer, or as travel or spare blush brush.
Value: $13 USD (approximate)
Here are the two makeup products swatched, left to right: Seraphine Botanicals blush in Rose gold and Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional pearl primer.
Once again I didn’t receive as much makeup as I prefer, so I will need to make some changes to my account. I like everything that I tried, and I am sure the mask will be great for me, too. Total value of my bag is $51.89 USD, and the price is $14.95 USD (the bag + shipping to Canada), and it seems like I always get Ipsy bags with a value close to this. I will be able to use everything, and I fell in love with the primer and the blush. I just wish that Ipsy didn’t charge shipping to Canada, or at least if they tried to lower it, since it considerably increases the total price of the bag, making it not as cheap as it seems at first.
You can order Ipsy Glam Bag using this link (all the links in this review are referral links and give me a 250 in points that I can redeem for products). This helps me get more products and boxes for reviews, but if you don’t wish to use my referral, you can google the name.
Ipsy does release some spoilers for the next month, but I don’t find them as useful, since there are so many options and variations, so I will not include them here. However, if you subscribe, you can see what you’ll be getting on or before the 5th day of the month by logging into your profile.
Good to know: Ipsy offers an additional quiz for some users, accessible through the profile, and I highly recommend doing it. I started tracking what I like/ don’t like in the Ipsy quiz, and what I actually receive. This month I have received three products from my likes, while I didn’t receive any that I marked as don’t like.
Do you have any questions about this subscription? Do you subscribe to any boxes? How do you like this one?
