Since I got a full-sized Laura Mercier Caviar stick in Copper in this years Sephora Favorites “Bronze bares all” set, I was hooked. So when I saw this Layer up Caviar Stick Eye Color Collection set on Sephora website, I knew it had to be mine. The set costs 46 dollars, but I managed to get it with 20% VIB discount.
The set contains 4 deluxe sized shadow sticks, 0.03 oz/ 0.85 g each, while the full-sized sticks have 0.05 oz/ 1.42 g of product and cost 35 dollars each. This gives the value of 85 dollars for the set, which is really great!
Pictures below show the comparison between the full and deluxe size, including how much product you get (sticks fully extended).
Colors included in the set are:
- Tuxedo (true black), matte;
- Aubergine (deep, dark purple) matte, limited edition;
- Rose gold (rose/pink gold), shimmer;
- Amethyst (mauve), shimmer.
Both deluxe and full-sized sticks are retractable. Here are close-ups of all four shades included in this set, and all of them swatched. (Tuxedo is shown after one use.)
I also wanted to show you Copper, which is a gorgeous bronze shimmer (not in the set).
Since I already had Copper, I knew what to expect from these sticks, and they didn’t disappoint.
I used them all without primer. They blend well, with any eye shadow brush, or simply with fingers, but you have to be fast. Once the shadows set, they won’t budge! I even tried rubbing the swatch on my hand after a while, the colors didn’t smudge or transfer onto my finger. They are extremely easy to apply, right from the stick, or with a brush. I just apply directly, and blend with a brush. The sticks glide nicely, and don’t tug.
Tuxedo is very soft. I used it on my waterline and it applied well, but as you can see from the close-up photo above, a lot of it got used up in just one application. However, although it is very soft, it only slightly melted down during the day (less than my usual kohl eyeliner).
The shadows lasted all day on my eyes, didn’t crease (without primer) and inner corner didn’t melt down, although I get watery eyes.
This is a simple and quick eye look I made (I am by no means a make up artist, just like to play around). I first used Tuxedo on my waterline, Rose Gold in the inner corner, Amethyst all over the lid and under lower lashes, and Aubergine in outer V and outer part of crease, and then blended it into the crease and over Amethyst.
I think these colors really make hazel and green eyes pop!
Although the shadows stay put, I easily removed them with my favorite eye makeup remover (Lancome bi-facil eye make-up remover) with only one swipe and no rubbing. Just make sure your remover is oil based, because water doesn’t remove these shadows (tested).
The only bad side of these shadows – I want to have all of them now!
Did you try these sticks before? How do you like them? Do you have a favorite shade?
