Disclaimer: This post contains referral links and features free samples received, with no review obligation, but opinions are mine and, as always, honest. Read the full disclosure here.

I did a lot of research regarding baby samples and coupons, and wanted to share the information I gathered with expecting parents. Even if you’re not expecting, you may know someone who is, so forward them this post. These are all current offers – I wasted too much time checking out offers that are no available anymore, so you don’t have to 🙂

Remember these are freebies, so manage your expectations. I got disappointed once because I was expecting too much (but it was their fault for hyping up their program a lot). Also, for most of these programs the samples vary, so you may receive more or less than me and you may receive different products completely.

I also listed some clubs worth joining at the end, even if there are no freebies.

I advise you to start signing up early, some of these samples take time to get/find. I started signing up when I was about 2 months pregnant.

Thyme Maternity Bump Benefits

What they’re offering:

  • Welcome gift for signing up
  • Hello baby gift a few weeks after delivery
  • Top star gift when you spend $250 in total (not in one purchase)
  • Various discounts, offers and GWP offers

How to get it: Sign up for the program online or in store. All gifts have to be picked up in store, except the GWP that can be added to your online purchase or picked up in store with a purchase

Issues:

  • I sometimes have issues with their bump card. It mostly doesn’t scan in stores, and they have to look me up by my phone number, which also sometimes doesn’t work.
  • There were also some problems when I went to exchange an online purchase in store for a different size, but it all worked out. Make sure you read their return/exchange policy well before doing it, because the employees are not always well trained, and sometimes get confused, so you have to know what you’re entitled to.
  • I also recommend that you keep all your purchase receipts and keep track of your total points ($1 spent = 1 point), so that you know when you reach $250 for the Top star gift (although I didn’t have a problem, they sent me an email soon after I reached the $250 total).
  • I had some issues with the Top Star gift. I got the last one they had in store, and it was definitely from their old stock. Half of the coupons were expired, and the other half were expiring very soon. I emailed the customer service, and after not getting a reply for 2 weeks I finally called them, and they emailed me some of the coupons codes with a longer expiry date (but not all). I highly advise that you call, not email in case this happens to you and you want to use some of the coupons.

Extra tips: I always use a coupon, buy when there are sales or get a GWP when buying things at this store. They have so many offers all the time, that I don’t recommend you buy anything at full price, unless you need something urgently.

 Welcome gift contents:

  • Pampers zippered pouch, 5 Swaddlers size N diapers, 6 sensitive wipes and a booklet with good information and nice coupons (like $5 off a pack of diapers) – the only downside is that I only had a little over a month to use the coupons
  • Avent bottle and a coupon for $2.5 off a bottle pack
  • Marcelle stretch mark cream sample
  • Coupons: BabiesRUs $10 off $50 on full-priced items; Staples $15 off cards and invitations; , RW&Co $50 off $100 purchase; Thyme free online shipping, $25 off any bottoms with a $125 purchase, $10 off $50 online purchase, free panties with a purchase of two bras (all coupons have at least a few months to be used)
  • Thyme magazine – mostly shows their products and offers

 Top Star gift contents:

  • Avent breastfeeding booklet with coupons
  • Avent night breast pads, a pack of 2
  • Aleva moisturizer sample
  • Sudocream diaper cream sample
  • Coupons: Thyme $50 off $100 or more on new fashion collections; missfresh.com $30 rebate when the combined value of selected dinner boxes is over $53.99; $10 rebate when the combined value of selected snack boxes is over $19.99; Well.ca $10 off any order of $50 or more; Hyba 30% off a purchase of $80 or more, Staples $25 off custom photo products (apparently they changed some coupons and I’ve received a gift from their old stock, so some coupons are different in 2019)

  • Feeding and sleep trackers – basically printed papers to help you track your baby’s schedule

Baby shower GWP (contents may vary):

This event happened in late September, and they offered a nice GWP in stores and online. There was also a contest to enter with great prizes.

  • Thyme maternity Dino bath towel
  • Baby Caillou bath book
  • Philips Avent pacifier
  • Sudocream diaper cream sample
  • Perlim Pinpin magic washing cloth

Customer appreciation GWP:

This event happened in October, but I decided not to purchase anything, so I didn’t get the gift. I was informed by Thyme Maternity that this event is not time specific, and happens from time to time in various stores (but not in all of them). Also, contents may vary.

  • Thyme maternity baby hat & bib
  • Baby Caillou bath book
  • Skip hop pouch

Babies R Us Baby Registry

What they’re offering:

  • $25 off a $75 purchase on full priced items when you create a registry in store or online and add 25 items to it; the coupon can be used online or in stores
  • Baby Swag Bag
  • 10% off remaining items on your registry (registry completion discount) a few weeks before your due date, but has to be used in stores. If you register for their R card, you will get 15% off.
  • Extended returns – almost anything purchased of the registry can be returned for 6 months after your due date
  • Various discounts and offers

How to get it: Create the registry online or in store. The gift bag has to be picked up in store.

Issues:

  • When I tried to create the registry online, I kept getting a messages that it was temporarily unavailable. After a few weeks of trying, I checked their FAQs and found that some passwords may create an issue. In this case you can either try a simpler password, with no numbers or special characters, or go to the store and register there.
  • I find that their baby registry counter in store is almost always empty, and you have to search for an employee if you want to grab your bag or ask anything.
  • The registry completion discount is a bit late and in store only, when lots of most expensive products are online only (maybe that’s how they make sure we don’t use it on expensive things), and can be used only once (so if products are in multiple stores, tough luck).

Extra tips: You can move your due date forward to get the completion discount early. I always use a coupon (those Thyme maternity coupons for example) when buying full priced products, and buy most things when there are sales. They have so many offers all the time, that I don’t recommend you buy too much at full price, unless you need something urgently. Also, when buying product in stores make sure to give them your registry number so that they can take them off the registry, to get that extended return period.

Registry gift contents:

  • A small reusable tote bag
  • Munchkin latch bottle
  • 3 pacifiers: Philips Avent, Nuk and Mam)
  • Aveeno baby lotion sample
  • Palmer’s Cocoa butter stretch marks lotion foil sample
  • Sudocream diaper cream sample
  • Sassy diaper sacks, 3 sacks
  • Aleva bamboo wipes, a pack of 10
  • Baby boo bamboo baby wash sample
  • Lansinoh samples – 2 breast pads and two milk storage bags
  • A few papers with information (Aleva booklet), no coupons – coupon offers are emailed

London Drugs Baby Welcome Package

What they’re offering:

  • A box of samples and coupons
  • Special email offers

How to get it: Sign up here and they will email you the code and instructions. The box can be picked up in store or added to your online order.

Issues:

  • It was terribly hard to find this box in stores. I’ve been asking for almost three months before I found it, and they were always out of stock. I almost gave up when I finally found it in my usual store. However, the customer service employees were always very nice and didn’t make me feel weird for asking 🙂
  • The code didn’t work online for me, but I didn’t really troubleshoot it much. It should work, so if you have issues, too, contact their customer service.

Extra tips: In stores, ask for the box at the customer service counter, since some cashiers will not know what you’re asking about. Be careful not to throw away the big folded paper that’s inside the box, it contains many valuable coupons.

Baby welcome package contents:

  • A cute cardboard box
  • 8 Huggies wipes
  • Camilia teething homeopatic medicine samples (5 vials)
  • Lansinoh samples – 2 breast pads and two milk storage bags
  • Sudocream diaper cream sample
  • Cetaphil lotion sample
  • A pack of Kleenex
  • Lots of great coupons (two pages of them)

the Baby Box Co.

What they’re offering:

  • A box to provide a safe sleeping space for your newborn
  • Various samples and offers

How to get it: Join the Baby box university here, watch all their videos (they are short and quite informative), then either order the box online (you pay for shipping), or sign up to get it at a pick-up location near you. These pick up events are only on certain dates (there was only one location in our city on one day only).

Issues:

  • When we went to pick up the box, we had to wait in line for almost half an hour (we were there on time and one of the first ones in line), for no apparent reason. The boxes were all lined up, so it was weird.
  • They hyped up the box a bit too much, so I was expecting more samples inside (they used to contain much more). So manage your expectations.
  • When I got home I realized that the sponge (“mattress”) wasn’t cut straight on one side, which made me question how safe it is for the baby. When I emailed them about it, they only sent me a link to safe sleeping space standards, without any apology or offer to replace the sponge. I decided the box will still be safe for naps, but only if supervised.
  • The box is not nearly as cute to me as the ones advertised. In my opinion, it is a bit too ‘sponsored’. I understand the need for a sponsorship, but I’d have preferred a nicer box. However, it will still get used as an extra sleeping spot.

the baby box university box 2018

Extra tips: Register for the box early to make sure you can choose a location that is not too far away.

the Baby Box Co. contents:

  • The box (cardboard), a “mattress” (basically a piece of sponge), a waterproof cover and one cotton sheet
  • Two large blue nylon bags
  • 2 packs of baby socks and scratch mitts, one girl and one boy
  • An offer for pregnancy yoga classes and a branded water bottle
  • Two packs of Lansinoh samples – 2 breast pads and two milk storage bags in each
  • Dove baby wash, 2 samples and a Dove coupon (I think it was $3 off any Dove baby product)
  • Philips Avent pacifier

Buy Buy Baby Registry

What they’re offering:

  • Referral program – for any friend you refer that creates a registry, you get a $25 off any $100 in-store purchase
  • Goody Bag
  • 15% registry completion discount on remaining registry items. You’ll receive two coupons, one coupon that comes by mail and one sent by email. The mail paper coupon is sent approximately 7-9 weeks prior to the expected arrival date. If you register only 9 weeks prior to your due date, the in-store coupon will be received in the mail 1-3 weeks after the registration date. The email coupon is sent 10 days prior to the expected arrival date. The coupons won’t expire until 90 days after arrival. (They actually don’t advertise all this on their website, and I had to email customer service to ask if they provide a discount and what are the terms.)

How to get it: Create the registry online or in store. The gift bag has to be picked up in store.

Issues:

  • All coupons are to be used in-store only
  • Even if an item is not listed under coupon exclusions, it may still be excluded. I wanted to order a crib, but decided to contact their customer service before heading to the store to place an online order there (see extra tips), and they told me I can’t use the coupon for the crib.
  • They don’t have too many stores. For example, there is only one store in BC, and the trip there and back for me would be at least 1.5h. It’s only worth it for big purchases that you know you can use coupons on (call ahead or email their customer service)

Extra tips: You can place an online order in store and apply your coupon once it is presented to the cashier.

Registry gift contents:

  • I decided it would too much of a hassle and didn’t register or go to the store, especially because the only thing I wanted to buy from them (the crib) was excluded from any coupons. I’ve heard that the swag bag is nice, so if you got one, let me know!

Amazon (Prime) Registry

What they’re offering:

  • 45-day returns
  • 10% registry completion discount on remaining registry items. Prime members get 15% off. This discount is available 2 months before your due date, which is plenty of time.
  • Free Welcome gift for Prime members

How to get it: Create the registry here. To get the Welcome gift, sign up for Prime (it can be a trial Prime, too), add 20 items to your registry and purchase $25 worth of products off your registry. In 1-2 days the redeem button will appear, and you can get the gift. Get it right away, since you can get it with free Amazon Prime shipping, too, so it’s completely free and you don’t need to make any additional purchase.

Issues:

  • You have to be a Prime member to get the gift, and there seems to be just one gift available.
  • There was a baby gift box available at some point (with diapers, wipes, baby detergent etc), but it seems like it’s been sold out and never came back.
  • You can only use the registry completion discount once, so make sure you have everything you want in your cart before checking out.

Extra tips: If you plan and time it right, you can get Prime, make a purchase, and then get the gift with another purchase, all within the 30-day free trial period (except Quebec, since their free trial works differently). Also, do this once your registry completion discount kicks in, so you get 15% off, instead of 10%. Although two months before the due date is a lot of time, if you need more you can move your due date forward to get the completion discount even earlier.

Registry gift contents:

  • Fisher-Price Rattle n’ Rock Maracas toy

  • Free pharmacist consultations

Extra tips: Sign up early to get those prenatals throughout your pregnancy. You’ll save up quite a lot just on those.

Registry gift contents:

I couldn’t get this, since Sobeys doesn’t have stores in BC. I’ve heard that the samples are not bad, so if you got a Welcome package, let me know!

Huggies No baby unhugged program – Ends on December 31, 2018

What they’re offering:

  • A free pack of Huggies Diapers and Wipes for Huggies Rewards members

How to get it: Register for the Huggies Rewards program here (or if you are already registered login). Then share a photo of you hugging your baby or a photo of your belly (or the ultrasound photo) and they will send you the wipes and diapers.

Issues:

  • I had trouble signing up for Huggies Rewards and logging into my account, but eventually I managed to do it, so be persistent.
  • I never received my package, so I contacted their customer service and they didn’t have the order in the system. They had to manually add the order and send me the package.

Extra tips: Keep a screenshot of the final page, and contact them after 4 weeks if you don’t receive your package by then.

Package contents:

  • A pack of 32 Huggies Little snugglers size N  diapers
  • 8 wipes

Issues: Some retail stores may not know how to process the cheques.

Nestle Start Well Stay Well

What they’re offering:

  • Welcome kit with samples and coupons
  • Additional coupons, gifts and samples for baby from birth to 2 years old
  • Expert advice
  • Email coupons (I received a Materna coupon soon after signing up)

How to get it: Sign up here. You will receive a package at around week 35 of your pregnancy. I got an email at 30 weeks asking to confirm my address for the first package.

Issues:

  • My package didn’t arrive by week 36, so I emailed them, and the next day they confirmed it was sent and gave me the tracking number, which showed that the package was sent on the day I emailed them. The day after their response I received an automated email with the tracking number, so this may be something everyone receives. I am not sure if this means they forgot to send it or not, but I don’t mind it as it still arrived before the baby. Just keep in mind that you may need to remind them to send it if the package doesn’t arrive by week 35 (per their FAQs). My package arrived when I was almost 37 weeks.
  • The package is marked as “Leave At Door”, so make sure to keep an eye on that tracking number.

Extra tips: Sign up even if you plan to breastfeed, because you never know what will happen, and it’s good to have samples around in case you need them. If you realize you don’t need them, there are many places you can donate them to.

Ready-For-Baby pack contents:

  • Welcome Kit booklet with a $5 off select Nestle formulas coupon
  • Nestle Good Start Ready to feed box – 4 x 89 ml bottles (expiry August 31, 2019), a nipple, a $5 off Good Start or PRO-Blend formula coupon and a $10 off Good Start Probiotic drops with the purchase of Good Start or PRO-Blend liquid formula coupon

Expired and/or not recommended

Johnsons & Johnsons had a program, too (Healthy Essentials), but it has unfortunately ended. I contacted them to confirm this and they said the program is closed. They also sent me two small coupons ($1 off any Johnson’s, Penaten or Desitin with June 30th 2019 expiry). If you think it’s worth the hassle, you can email them to ask for coupons, but don’t expect much.

johnson and johnson coupons

Naty Ambassador – I linked to this program in case you still want to try it, but I can’t recommend it. It only requires a quick sign up and 3 email referrals. The referrals will receive a free diaper sample offer, which they don’t have to claim for you to become an ambassador. As an ambassador you get various offers – when I joined it was 10% off my first purchase, and a 65% off a diaper bag with samples (costing only $55.65 CAD + taxes for the bag, a pack of diapers, a pack of wipes and a pack of liners). This sounded great, until I tried to order – the shipping costs to Canada are $59 CAD. I decided it’s not worth it, but if you think you like the offer, you can sign up at the link above (it’s not a referral link).

I hope this post will help you score some great samples. I gathered quite a few – for example I didn’t buy any pacifiers because I got so many through these programs. As a first time mum, I also learned about things and products I didn’t know existed or that I’d need them. This a great way for parents to try things, and for brands to advertise their products. Some of the samples are great for the diaper bag, like the wipes and Sudocream. It’s definitely easier than carrying big sizes and packs of wipes around. Between the Huggies diapers and the $5 Pampers coupon from Thyme maternity  I used for a small pack of Pampers diapers, I got enough diaper samples for the hospital to test which ones will baby like (some babies are allergic to some, and some diapers just don’t fit well, depending on how big the baby is).

If any of these offers is not available anymore, message me or post a comment, and I will update the list. Do you know about any other baby freebies, parent clubs worth joining or parent testing opportunities? Let me know!
