As usually, I got very excited when I receive an email from Influenster, and this time it said I’d be getting a Covergirl VoxBox. It may be the fact that I never know when I’ll qualify or what will I get, but the whole secrecy about the selection process just makes me feel so special when I actually do get a box, and it seems as I’m getting them a bit more often as of lately. For disclosure purposes I have to point out that I got these products for free.
This time around I received the Vitalist Elixir Foundation in Classic Ivory and Melting Pout Liquid Lipstick in Gel-Ful.
Unfortunately, the foundation color I received is not a perfect match for me. I usually get Classic Ivory for myself, but this one was way too dark for my light skin tone. I believe Ivory would’ve been a good match for me, which is the only lighter color available, meaning those with very fair skin tones will not find a match in this foundation. I didn’t take this into account when rating the product, though, since the color match doesn’t affect it’s performance, but it did mean I could only test it at home a few times.
The foundation definitely has full coverage as advertised, and applies evenly. I do recommend you use a beauty blender or a whatever type of sponge you’re using to get a more even coverage. It feels light on my skin, I almost forgot I was wearing it, but catches on dry patches, so you need to exfoliate and hydrate well before using it. A hydrating primer would be good, too (I have dry combination skin). The finish is matte and the foundations wears well all day, without getting shiny in T-zone. The addition of SPF 20 is a great, thing, too, although I don’t really rely on SPF in makeup, and tend to wear sunscreen underneath anyway.
I really like this lipstick. The soft spongy applicator makes it really easy to apply, and I manage to get clean, but soft edges. I like how it doesn’t feather at all, so I don’t have to use a lip liner. It takes some time for the lipstick to dry down, and until it does it can go all over and become uneven, so I recommend you to try and keep your lips separate until it gets dry. Once it dries down, it feels comfortable on my lips. It’s not long wearing, but it doesn’t wear down too fast either. It can last for a few hours, unless I drink and eat. The color is a beautiful rosy coral, perfect for day wear, or when I emphasize my eyes and want to tone down the rest of my makeup.
Here is me wearing both the foundation and the lipstick, with no other makeup except mascara. You can see the foundation is definitely too dark, especially on my forehead, and it did catch on my dry patches a little bit. The lipstick, though, is beautiful. It’s the color I love to wear for running around because it works with my complexion, and the lipstick is comfortable and easy to reapply.
Vitalist Elixir Foundation retails for $13.97 at Walmart, and it’s available in 14 shades, while the Melting Pout Lipstick retails for 8.47 and you can find it in 12 trendy shades. You can probably find these two products at various stores, and they may be priced differently.
Have you tried any of these products? Do you like Covergirl products in general? Do you have any favorites to recommend?

Great review! I definitely never expected Ivory to be so dark! I had the same issue. It seems like a good foundation aside from the line not having a good colour range for my skin tone
I absolutely love the lipstick!! The colour is gorgeous but I also love the applicator and formula!

Thank you. I always considered classic ivory to be on the light side, too, but it’s definitely too dark for me, and this is at the end of summer, when I have a tiny little bit of a tan. And I’m light skinned, not fair, so they definitely should have made more lighter colors.
But I was surprisingly happy with both the foundation and the lipstick. Both are so comfortable to wear, and like you said that lippie has a great applicator.

I have a bit of a tan right now also so I can imagine in the winter their shade ivory would be too dark lol

True, I wasn’t even thinking about that. Oh I do hope they make more shades, since I like having a cheaper option for when I run out of my other foundations 🙂

I didn’t realize you were so fair. Hopefully you have another product to lighten the foundation so you can use it.

I didn’t realize I was either, LOL I definitely think this color is a bit darker for classic ivory than it should be. But hey, I can always use my new Kat Von D white concealer to lighten it. It should give more coverage that way, too 🙂
