Ashley Meston & Phil Lebeau founded Basd Body Care to produce organic, plant-based, cruelty-free products that work, without compromising on quality and scent, and without all the bad stuff. This Canadian company wants everyone to be comfortable in their own skin, and their motto is “it’s good to be nakd”. Their products are paraben free and non GMO.

You all know already how much I prefer natural skincare and body care over non-natural. As a blogger I am open to trying almost anything, but I truly enjoy knowing that products I’m using are clean. I was so happy when I collaborated with Basd Body Care to review one of their product lines. Their products are currently available in two scents, the invigorating mint and the indulgent crème brûlée. They let me choose which scent I wanted to try, and I decided I would go for the sweet crème brûlée. Not sure how the other product line smells, but I am very happy with my choice.

Each line of products consists of a coffee body scrub, a body wash and a body lotion. They also have a brand new product, mint lip balm, which is only available in holiday packs (more about that at the end of the review). My package arrived in a lovely minimalist white box, which is quite sturdy and ideal if you want to reuse it. I really like the presentation, and the light copper embossed details.

Coffee Body Scrub

Basd body scrub is formulated with organic coffee to gently remove dead skin while fighting puffiness and cellulite. It also improves the look of acne scars. It’s loaded with natural oils to moisturize and has the same PH as your skin. Sea salt is there to detox, and organic coconut sugar to help with additional exfoliation.

Ingredients: Organic Ground Coffee, Organic Sweet Almond Oil, Purified Water, Sea Salt, Organic Coconut Sugar, Vitamin E Oil, Organic Orange Essential Oil, Vanilla Fragrance.

At first I didn’t love the packaging, since I was afraid it would get soaked in the shower. However, the packaging is actually water resistant, which is great. Once I opened the bag I was simply blown away. The scent is so sweet and truly indulgent. It reminds me of coffee mixed with caramel. This is much better than just plain coffee scent, which can become somewhat unpleasant when wet.

This is a loose scrub, and as expected, it flies all over the shower. I suggest you use it with slow movements if you are using it in the bathtub. The coffee grounds are coarse, and I’d say this is a medium strength scrub. It can be more gentle if you don’t press too hard. I really prefer coarse scrubs, so this is perfect for me.

I found that this scrub removes all the dead skin and leaves my skin extra soft. Even after washing it off with the body wash, my skin stays lightly hydrated with oils. I love it! The only thing I didn’t like is that it lightly stains my nails and cuticles yellow (like every other coffee scrub out there).

Body Wash

Basd Body Wash is formulated to leave skin refreshed and healthy, while removing unwanted oils and dirt from your skin. It contains hydrating ingredients that take care of your skin, while green tea neutralizes free radicals.

Ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Carya Ovata Bark Extract, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Ethylene Glycol Distearate, Organic Green Tea Extract, Vitamin E Oil, Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Vanilla Fragrance, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Citrate, Panthenol, Allantoin.

This body wash shares the same wonderful scent with the body scrub, as expected. I was a bit annoyed with the pump bottle. The first pump gives a nice amount of the body wash, while the next one only gives a small amount. You have to pause for a few seconds between pumps to get good amounts every time. But it can just be me. Regardless, I really enjoyed this body wash. It smells amazing, and always makes me hungry! I have so many sweet cravings after using the line, it’s hard to control myself, that’s how good it smells.

The body wash is creamy and lather gently. It easily washes off all the coffee residue left after the scrub, and you’d be surprised how much residue there is. The wash is surprisingly not drying. I do have to moisturize afterwards, since I have dry skin, but someone with normal or oily skin could easily go without moisturizing after using this body wash.

Body Lotion

Basd plant-based lotion is formulated with five moisturizing ingredients to leave skin smooth, nourished, soft and velvety. Organic virgin coconut oil and organic shea butter are rich in vitamins and help reduce puffiness.

Ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Organic Sunflower Seed Oil, Candelilla/Jojoba/Rice Bran Polyglyceryl-3 Esters, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Organic Coconut Oil, Coffee Extract, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Cocoa Seed Butter, Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Vanilla Fragrance, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzonate, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol.

This body lotion is my favorite product in this body care line. It has the same sweet scent like the rest of the products. The scent has a medium strength, not overpowering, and lingers on the skin (and clothes) for a while. The consistency is that of a thicker lotion, and it absorbs very fast. This lotion is great for apply, dress and go times. It’s also not greasy and doesn’t leave my skin shiny or sticky. Although it’s just a lotion, I find it hydrating enough for my extra dry skin.

Overall, I think this is a great line of products that work together very well. I like having the whole line with the same scent, because my nose doesn’t really love scent mixing. It makes me feel good to know that these products are plant based, mostly organic and cruelty free. All three products scored a perfect zero on the think dirty scale, meaning they are non-toxic, contain no allergens or carcinogens.

You will get the best value if you buy a whole line of products, which comes with an extra little lip balm, too, and is currently on sale. Prices are as follows (in CAD), and they ship to Canada and the US:
