After trying a free month of Ipsy Glam Bag subscription in January, I really liked it and decided to keep the subscription going for a while. This is one of the cheapest makeup subscriptions out there, and since I am on a makeup overload, but still want to receive some fun mail, I thought this could be a good match. This is my second box.
Ipsy Glam Bag is a beauty subscription box that sends 5 makeup and skincare samples every month, and sometimes full sized products, too. You will also receive a makeup bag every month. The brands included vary a lot, and there are big variations between boxes. You fill a profile, and they try to match you with products that suit you.
The cost: US $10 + $4.95 shipping to Canada (no shipping charge for the US)
Ships to: Canada, US (except Hawaii and Alaska)
Good to know: You can pause the subscription for 1, 2 or 3 months, or adjust the frequency to receive the bag every other month (they bill you $12 USD every two months for this).
Everything comes packed in a bright pink padded envelope, and all the makeup survived shipping from the US to Canada.
February theme is Unzipped! The bag comes with a card. One side of this month’s card has a motivational text about embracing everything you are.
This is everything that I received in my February bag. Please note that there are many variations, and you may and probably will receive some or all different products.
February Glam Bag
This month’s bag is dusty rose canvas bag, adorned with black lace. The lining is made of black nylon, and although I don’t think it is waterproof, it is most certainly easy to wipe in case of any spills happening. The outer material is will be getting dirty easily, though, and tends to pick up lint, hair etc. I still like the bag, and it’s very romantic, fitting for February an Valentine’s day.
bioBelle #primer sheet mask – Full size x2!
I tried one of these masks, and they are really good. I’m happy that Ipsy sent me two. The fit is not too bad, it’s just a bit too wide in the area between my nose and lips. The width is good for my narrow face, but it’s a bit too long (goes under chin, which is not too bad). It has great big eye openings, which is rare, usually sheet masks are too close to my eyes.
It’s dripping with essence, and once on my face, doesn’t slide or drip. It has the cutest hearts and leaves print on temples, and nice thin material (tencel), that feels more comfortable on my face than most sheet masks. This is a 5 minutes only mask, but I could easily wear it longer, and sheet masks usually annoy me after a while. You rinse it after removing, which is a bit unusual. It left my skin smooth and hydrated, but had no noticeable effect on my pores. All in all, not a bad pre-makeup mask 🙂
Value: $9.98 USD
This palette was made exclusively for Ipsy, but I’ve linked to a full size Crystal Matrix palette that contains some of these shades (some are found in the Beachy Punk palette). I was happy to see a mini eyeshadow palette in my bag, and love the color selection. These are natural mineral eyeshadows, and pigmentation is OK (not perfect, but visible). I think I will wear all of these colors in the spring and summer.
Value: $11.42 USD (estimated)
Luxie Blending and Shading Eye Brush 249 – Full size!
I couldn’t find this particular double-ended brush on the Luxie website, so I linked to their blending eye brush. The only double ended brush on their website costs twice as much as one sided brushes, so that is the price I’ve estimated for the one I received. I am not a huge fan of double ended brushes, because I keep mine in a jar, but I can see this being a great brush for traveling. It is pricey for me, but I have a mini travel set of Luxie brushes that I received in Boxycharm and use them all the time. This one is equally good, and I’m happy to have received it.
Value: $30.82 USD (estimated)
Mellow Liquid Precision Pen Eyeliner – Full size!
This eyeliner has great reviews online, because it’s easy to use due to its felt tip. I would’ve generally loved this eyeliner if I have received it in a different color. However, I have so many black eyeliners already that I didn’t even open this one and it is going onto my “to be gifted” pile.
Value: $14 USD
Full size of this lipstick is 6g, so this is almost as big. I love the shade, it really suits me. I believe that this purplish-pink shade was made exclusively for Ipsy. This liquid lipstick has great pigmentation, but like most liquid ones, it tends to emphasise my lip lines. I was surprised how comfortable it feels, even on my dry lips, and I am not usually a bit fan of liquid lipsticks because they dry out my lips completely. This one does transfer a bit (on my water glass or straw), but it’s still quite long lasting. It wears off evenly, and almost completely with food (again, this is expected). It leaves a nice, natural looking stain. All in all, I really like it.
Value: $16.67 USD
Here are the swatches of all the makeup from this bag. Left to right: Pacifica eyeshadow palette, Ofra liquid lipstick. Eyeshadows were swiped twice, lipstick once. Eyeshadows are not the most pigmented ever, but they will be easy to use for some daytime looks.
My second Ipsy bag was OK, but not perfect. I am not impressed by Ipsy for sending me two felt tip black eyeliners two months in a row, especially because I noted no black or brown eyeliners in my profile. I like everything else I received. Total value of my bag is $82.89 USD, and the price is$14.95 USD (the bag + shipping to Canada), so this is an amazing value, although the big part of this comes from the brush . I will use everything except the eyeliner, so the value of useful items for me is $68.89. I just wish that Ipsy didn’t charge shipping to Canada, or at least if they tried to lower it, since it considerably increases the total price of the bag, making it not as cheap as it seems at first.
You can order Ipsy Glam Bag using this link (all the links in this review are referral links and give me a 250 in points that I can redeem for products). This helps me get more products and boxes for reviews, but if you don’t wish to use my referral, you can google the name.
Ipsy does release some spoilers for the next month, but I don’t find them as useful, since there are so many options and variations, so I will not include them here. However, if you subscribe, you can see what you’ll be getting on the 5th day of the month by logging into your profile.
