FabFitFun subscription box was interesting to me for a long time. This is a lifestyle subscription, that brings makeup, skincare, apparel, home and fitness products on a quarterly basis. I often see things in this box that I wouldn’t even think to get on my own. Last year I ordered their Fall box, but cancelled right after it. This year I decided to start a new subscription with this Summer box.
FabFitFun subscription box sends only full-size items, and there are some slight variations between boxes, but they are not big, and the value is pretty much equal between variations. If you prepay for a full year (4 boxes), you can choose some of the variations, and there are some “choice” items that all subscribers can choose from.
Be careful when subscribing, because often when the seasonal box is sold out they will offer an “Editor’s box”. The first box you’ll be getting is clearly marked in your order summary when you’re subscribing. Editor’s boxes are usually a mix of products from past boxes, and some new ones. They are mostly just as good as regular, seasonal boxes.
The cost: US $49.99 + $8 shipping to Canada (no shipping charge for the US), $179.99 for the year
Ships to: Canada, US
UPDATE: FabFitFun started charging taxes to Canada from this Summer box. Taxes are charged on add-ons, too!
Everything comes nicely packed in a big box, with different design every time. This box is shipped in a larger brown box, so it stays pristine, and can be reused for storage.
This box arrived at least a month ago, I was just too busy to review it, sorry. FabFitFun boxes are generally delivered within a reasonable time frame for quarterly boxes.
Every box includes a newspaper-style magazine, with information on what’s in the box, product designers and how to use/style some of the products. This quarter FabFitFun also partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (they partner with a different charity every season).
Now onto the box contents:
Foreo LUNA Fofo in Mint
This is a brand new product, sent in FabFitFun boxes even before it was officially released. Everyone received this product, and the colors were sent out randomly. I was OK with most of the colors, and love the mint one that I received. LUNA Fofo is a silicone face cleansing device that connects to an app to analyze your skin and offer a customized cleansing routine. It’s not too big, so it doesn’t take too much room in my washroom. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m looking forward to it, I need to cleanse my skin better for sure. This product is the star of the box, and if you like it it will make everything else in the box seem like a bonus.
Value: $89 USD/ $119 CAD
This is the second product that everyone received. A great sunscreen is an expected inclusion in a summer box, and Coola is a brand pretty much everyone loves. I think it is fantastic that this sunscreen doubles as a moisturizer, because most sunscreens can be pretty heavy when layered over skincare. This one is not drying and is slowly becoming a favorite of mine! I also love that this is labeled as a sport sunscreen, making it water resistant for up to 80 minutes, which is great for someone who sweats a lot.
Value: $32 USD/ $44 CAD
This is the third and last product that was in every box. I love lifestyle and home decor products in FabFitBun boxes, and this little marble dish is so on trend. I actually don’t have anything in this marble pattern, so this will be a welcome decor piece, that will double as a photo prop 🙂 I love the shape, size and the touch of gold, pretty much everything about this little dish is perfect! I wouldn’t use this for rings, though, since it’s really shallow, but it can be used in many other ways, just use your imagination.
Value: $14.99 USD
Every subscriber had an option to choose the next two items:
CHOICE 1: Yumi Kim Makeup Train Case in navy
As explained above, every subscriber could choose two items. The first choice was between this makeup train case in Navy or Periwinkle Floral OR the Summer & Rose Beach Towel in Pineapple or Rocky Pine Print. So they offered us two products in two colors each (4 products to choose from). I decided to get the makeup case in navy, because I have too many towels, but both of these choices were great. There was an option to choose more than one of these 4 products (every additional one was $10 more). The makeup case has a deeper part and a top part for smaller items. It will be great for traveling, and it seems like it’s well made.
Value: $58 USD ($55 for the towel)
This is the second item everyone could choose. The choice was offered between three very different products: this body scrub, the ERTH x Fab Fit Fun “Tu Y Yo” Ring and the Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel. At first I wanted the ring, but I just didn’t like the open shape, and ultimately I decided to go for something I knew I would use up – a body scrub. I found it weird that the products offered as a second choice were so different, because this has never happened before. Regardless, I am happy with my choice – this body scrub is very luxurious and something I can never have enough of.
Value: $48 USD ($55 for the ring, $39 for the muscle gel)
The next three choices were offered to annual subscribers only (the ones that pay for 4 boxes at once). For seasonal subscribers one of the each choice products was randomly chosen, depending on availability.
I am a seasonal subscriber, so I couldn’t choose this item, and I randomly received the Pro Glow palette. Annual subscribers could choose this palette OR a Tarte Tarteist Pro To Go eyeshadow palette and a Sex Kitten Liquid Eyeliner. I love Tarte, however neither of the choices were for me – I already have the eyeshadow palette (it’s one of my favorites) and I don’t do much contouring. However, the palette I received is really great – well packaged, sturdy, with one cream and 5 powder contour and highlight shades. Tarte doesn’t disappoint, and I may just keep it for special occasions.
Value: $45 USD/ $59 CAD ($43 USD/ $54 CAD for the eyeshadow palette and the eyeliner)
CHOICE 4: Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel
This is the second choice available for annual subscribers only. They could select either this peel or the Orlando Pita Play Atmos-Shield Hair Protectant Treatment Spray. I would’ve been happy with either one – Elemis is a great brand and I love facial peels, while hair protectant is one product I use every time I wash my hair. The peel is a rich cream mask that sits on the skin for 10-15 minutes and then rinses off to reveal smooth, glowing skin. Exactly what I needed!
Value: $45 USD ($34 for the hair protectant)
This is the third choice only annual subscribers had. They could choose between this enzyme cleanser OR the Maji Sports Loop Resistance Band OR the Minor History Post Script Wallet. This was another weird selection because the three products were so different. Again, I was happy to receive any of the three products, however I found it weird that I received the enzyme cleanser AND the Elemis peel in the same box, because they are quite similar in what they do. The difference is that one is a cleanser and one a mask. FabFitFun could’ve made it more interesting if they only included one of these two products. I’ve noticed that many other subscribers received both enzyme products as well. I am happy with the cleanser, though, and Vasanti is a great brand, so I will eventually use them both up.
Value: $29 USD/ $34 CAD ($15 USD for the resistance band, $20 USD for the wallet)
This is a sponsored item, a bonus, and it is included to increase awareness about how single-use plastics (like plastic straws) can highly impact wildlife in a terrible way. FabFitFun subscribers can get a free metal straw from the website linked above, however it looks like this is only available for the US subscribers.
A great “perk” of being a FabFitFun subscriber is their quarterly add-ons sale (and some other sales in between). Their partner brands offer a huge variety of products at a deep discount. The best ones get sold out quickly, especially because the annual subscribers have first access, however I always get a few small items as an extra. I highly recommend checking out the sale, because you will be surprised by the prices!
Overall, this was a great box, with an amazing value. I am a bit let down by the variety – the box seemed a too heavy on beauty products. I also don’t find it very summer appropriate, and compared to the Fall 2017 box there was one item less. I believe this is because the LUNA Fofo has such a high value. However, I actually love everything I received, which is rare with subscription boxes. I calculated total retail value of the box at $361, which is amazing for $58 USD (+taxes) that I paid for it, and almost the highest value I could get (the total value depends on the choice items). That being said, I wouldn’t pay retail prices for most of these items, so I’m glad to receive them in this box at such a deep discount. I was mostly lucky with the variations I received, too. Those in the US can find many groups where they can swap items they didn’t like from subscription boxes, making it even less of a risk (I have found one such group in Canada, but the shipping costs for swaps are really high). You can also use anything you don’t like as gifts, as everything in the box is full size.
I also really appreciate that shipping to Canada is only $8 USD additionally, and this is a huge box. Some US subscription companies really overcharge for shipping.
You can order FabFitFun box using this link (all the links in this review are referral links and give you $10 off your first box, and me $15 to use in the FabFitFun shop). This helps me get more products and boxes for reviews, but if you don’t wish to use my referral, you can google the name of the box.
This box sold out quickly, and if you subscribe now your first box will be the Editor’s box (you can look up full box spoilers online already). Your next box will be the Fall box, for which you will be charged in on August 15. Since the Editor’s and the Fall box would be very close, I do recommend you wait for the Fall box.
